Achilles Tendonitis

Also called Achilles tendinopathy, this is an inflammation of the strong tendon that connects the back part of the heel to the calf muscles. Sudden, quick movements or an increase in sporting activity may cause the tendon to tear.  Scar tissue can form around the damaged area, causing pain, restriction and altered walking or standing.

Sports chiropractors treat the scar tissue and provide specialised foot and ankle exercises to increase ankle flexibility and reduce symptoms.

Symptoms:

Vague pain in the back part of the heel

Gradual onset of pain, progressive

Tight calf muscles

Swelling

Decreased range of movement

Pain and weakness walking or climbing stairs

Inflammation and redness around the heel
