Get your Vitamin D

It’s time to get out and chill! Get your rays, get your Vitamin D!

It’s summer and it’s time to get out there and enjoy the sun.

Sitting outside on a warm and sunny day and relaxing is instinctive. It’s something that we don’t have to be told to do; unlike exercising and eating healthily.

We go out into the sun, because it makes us feel good. It gives us that all important Vitamin D which maintains healthy bones and teeth, and is suggested to supply a protective effect against multiple diseases and conditions such as cancer. Some studies also say that Vitamin D helps improve mental health and wellness. 

The sun also makes us feel warm and contributes to our wellness, which can be a rare bonus if you live in a country that offers a lot of rain, wind, chill and occasional snow. (Not England, surely!)

However, we all know about the dangers of being in the sun. Sunscreen is important, but so is also choosing the right product. There are a lot of brands out there that offer different protection, and it is important to look for the product that suits you. Think about what you need to protect you from burns, what will protect you from long-term exposure, and what factor you actually need. Slather on too much and you might reduce or block the skin’s ability to soak up Vitamin D.

And, don’t forget that while you are in the shade you are still getting the benefits of the sun. Wearing a hat in the middle of day is not a bad idea either.
